IT Support, Cloud & Infrastructure

I'm moving into technology after more than a decade in transport operations — coordinating daily services, supporting users and keeping systems running under pressure. I'm now building hands-on skills across IT support, systems, networking and cloud infrastructure through structured study and a home lab, and I'm looking for my first professional IT role.

About

For over a decade I worked in transport operations — most recently as an Operations Co-ordinator handling special-needs school transport for local councils, and before that managing airport-transfer and chauffeur dispatch. Those roles meant coordinating people and services, communicating with many different stakeholders, and diagnosing and fixing problems quickly when things went wrong.

I'm now making a deliberate move into IT and infrastructure. Rather than collecting certificates, I'm focused on building things I can actually explain: a Linux home lab, containers and a small Kubernetes cluster, and real deployments running on cloud servers. I see one continuous path — from end-user support, through systems and networking, to infrastructure and cloud automation — and I want to start it in a first-line or support role and grow from there.

This site is built and deployed the same way I'm learning to work: version-controlled, automatically deployed, and documented as I go.

Projects

A small number of real, documented projects — each framed around the problem, what I built, and what I learned.

Automated deployment for iminhas.com

Problem
I wanted a real, hands-off way to publish updates to a live site without logging into the server and copying files by hand.
What I built
A static site hosted on an Ubuntu server on Google Cloud, served by Nginx over HTTPS with an automatic HTTP → HTTPS redirect. A GitHub Actions workflow connects over SSH on every push to main and updates the server from Git.
Technologies
Ubuntu · Nginx · Google Cloud · GitHub Actions · SSH · Git
What I learned
How a CI/CD pipeline, SSH keys and a web server fit together, and why a clean deploy step (reset to the committed state) makes releases predictable.

Home lab & practical experience

Hands-on work built outside commercial employment. Split honestly by status — nothing moves to Completed until I can show evidence and explain it.

Completed

First documented labs are being written up now.

Currently learning

  • Linux administration
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes (k3s home lab)
  • Terraform
  • CI/CD with GitHub Actions

Planned

  • Windows troubleshooting
  • Active Directory / Entra ID
  • Microsoft 365 administration
  • DNS & DHCP
  • Nginx / Apache + TLS certificates
  • Ansible
  • Prometheus & Grafana monitoring

Current learning

  • KodeKloud DevOps Engineer path — primary structured curriculum.
  • Certification track: KCNA, working toward CKA.
  • Focus areas: Linux, Kubernetes and Terraform, reinforced through home-lab practice.

Experience

Over a decade in transport operations. Not IT roles — but the day-to-day was coordination, communication and problem-solving under pressure, which carries over.

Operations Co-ordinator / Tech Support

Nivoshan UK Ltd · Jan 2014 – Mar 2020

Coordinated special-needs school transport for local councils. Managed daily scheduling, handled urgent issues in real time, supported staff with day-to-day technical and operational problems, and communicated with councils, drivers and families to keep services running reliably.

Operations Manager

Chiswick Cars Ltd · Aug 2009 – Dec 2013
